Lunch with Tom McEnery

Tom McEnery

Tom McEnery, former Mayor of San Jose, speaks at Lunch with LeagueSunshine laws, strong mayor, mini mayors, redistricting, public access - when it comes to a discussion of San Jose's future, we all have opinions. Few people know the city better than former Mayor Tom McEnery so who better to answer the question:

What Reforms Do We Really Need

Tom McEnery, a lifelong resident of San Jose, was the City's mayor from 1983-1990, during which time he oversaw the revitalization of the city's downtown. Before that, interested in land-use issues, he had been a member of the Planning Commission and the City Council. He continues to weigh in on political issues and his interests range from creating a safe downtown in San Jose to changing California's redistricting process. A graduate of Santa Clara University, he has a Master's degree in History. In addition to his tenure in business, politics and teaching, he is an author, having written the book, The New City-State: Change and Renewal in America's Cities. He recently started a blog, http://www.sanjoseinside.com, to "exchange ideas, explore new directions, and rumunate about the future."
